Datawind Ubisurfer – Datawind Ubisurfer Netbook

Ubisurfer Netbook

Overview

The newest addition to the portable netbook industry is the Ubisurfer from UK based wireless technology provider Datawind. Datawind’s PocketSurfer devices have been the precursors to today’s netbooks and when introduced, they made the internet affordable and accessible to all. The UbiSurfer truly is the next great leap in technology – all the functionality of a laptop with the “go anywhere” internet connection which makes Datawind products so popular. The integrated SIM-card provides you with a free internet connection everywhere there is mobile phone network connectivity.  If you’re close to a wireless network you can connect and explore the internet at your leisure in true vivid colour on its 7 inch TFT LCD screen.

Connectivity

In order to provide more connectivity options in the Ubisurfer apart from having the standard Wi-Fi and LAN connections, Datawind has teamed up with Vodafone to offer an embedded SIM and GPRS modem. This allows access to the internet anywhere a mobile phone signal is available, at home and abroad. you are not limited to Wi-Fi hotspots and no need to buy a costly USB broadband dongle to ensure connection this is one of the Ubisurfer’s strongest assets. Also Datawind’s patented acceleration technology comes enabled with the UbiSurfer which thereby delivers web pages faster than other portable netbooks on a mobile network, at five to seven seconds per page.

Benefits

Another feature that makes the UbiSurfer stand out from the competition is the free-usage model which eliminates the complexity of purchasing mobile web devices by eliminating lengthy contractual payments, activation fees and credit checks.  With the UbiSurfer you pay for the device not the usage. For the average user, there are no monthly fees, airtime tariffs, contracts or recurring fees – those are paid for by Datawind.  Users get 30 hours of free surfing a month for 12 months and 5p per minute roaming in Europe. Upgrading to an unlimited usage package is available, and only an additional £5.99 a month.

Much More
you can do so much with this little beauty that it’s very likely we’re going to run out of space. Here goes: it has a highly secure Linux operating system which hosts a word processing program, a spreadsheet program, a paint brush program, a media player, a sound recorder, it’s flash enabled, you can use instant messaging programs, check your emails, (if you’ve read this far, you should probably buy it) read PDF files, arrange your life with the inbuilt calendar, read E-Books and once you’re done with all that you can install more programs from a USB flash drive. Utilizing the embedded SD card reader or by plugging an external hard drive into one of 3 USB expansion ports, you can increase memory to your heart’s content. With this baby stuffed in your backpack you’ll be ready to go wherever you are.

Cost
The Ubisurfer is priced at a very reasonable £159.99 and is available now at Maplin retail stores and Ideal TV home shopping
